Hm – I’ve always thought these were acts of catachresis. I agree, though, there’s punny, and then there’s a blatant destruction of English. A simple scan of (work) email shows how little people understand homophones.
It’s hard to believe how many people get this one wrong, but I expect better from a major—well, formerly major—company.
Keep fighting the war on error. That’s a great motto.
